Start a Private Equity IRA
Private Equity Step-by-Step
You have heard about Private Equity IRAs, but you have questions about the process. This page step-by-step will take you through the process to help you understand from beginning to end.
Step 1: Open an Account
Complete an application and open a Self Directed account. Select from Traditional IRA, Roth IRA, SIMPLE, SEP, Individual(k), HSA or Coverdell. It will take four business days, after New Direction has received completed paperwork, to open an account.
Step 2: Fund the account
To fund your account–Make a contribution and/or transfer or rollover funds from existing IRA or 401(k).
Step 3: Find Private Equity Investment
Find a private equity investment. There are several types of private equity an IRA can purchase.
Step 4: Purchase Private Equity
Instruct New Direction to purchase the private equity. All paperwork needs to be written with the IRA as the buyer.
Step 5: Owning Private Equity
Your IRA now owns private equity.
*This flowchart is an overview of the process. Do NOT attempt to purchase any investment prior to communicating with our transaction department or client relations department as paperwork mistakes could lead to substantial taxes and penalties and may not be possible to correct.
