What are Self-Directed IRA Fees?

Self-directed IRA fees are the expenses that allow your IRA provider to service your retirement account(s) in all the ways that are legally required by the IRS. This service includes ensuring your account(s) and investments remain in-step with IRS code, and that all paperwork and bookkeeping substantiates the legality of your account transactions in case the IRS chooses to investigate. Through this substantiation, account holders are able to maintain the tax-free or tax-advantaged statuses of their accounts.

Not all IRA providers have the same fees or fee schedules. At New Direction, our self-directed IRA fees are backed by industry-best convenience tools and innovative automated services that allow us to service your account quickly, efficiently, and effectively

Real Estate IRA Fees:

New Direction IRA recognizes the needs of the real estate investor by offering free online bill payments and a low, flat-rate annual fee.

Our advanced online client portal allows you to easily and quickly make payments for things like taxes, insurance, HOA fees, etc. for FREE.

The annual fee per-property is 295 per year, or 490 if leveraged. That means that whether your asset is worth 50,000 or 5,000,000, your annual fee will be the same. Asset appreciation will also not affect this fee. If, however, your IRA has more assets of lower average value, we also have a competitive value-based fee schedule (Option 2 below) to fit your strategy.

Option 1:

295 per asset, per year*

1 asset = 295 per year
2 assets = 590 per year
3 assets = 885 per year
...and so on.

Leveraged assets

1 asset with 1 mortgage = 490 per year
2 assets with 2 mortgages = 980 per year
3 assets with 3 mortgages = 1,470 per year
...and so on.

*Annual fee is charged when you purchase an asset and annually on the anniversary month of the first asset purchased in your account thereafter. Mortgages used to purchase real estate are considered a separate asset. The annual fee charged for a mortgage is 195 per year.

When using leverage (non-recourse loan) to purchase real estate, the mortgage must be kept as a separate asset. The fee difference is an additional transaction fee at the time of acquisition and 195/year for the loan until it is paid in full.

New Direction IRA allows the IRA holder maximum flexibility when it comes to their precious metals investment. The dealer and depository are selected at the discretion of the IRA holder. New Direction IRA takes care of the administration and bookkeeping; you make the decisions. Our annual precious metals IRA fee is only 75 for accounts below 100,000 and 125 for accounts at or above 100,000.

Once you have selected the metals to purchase, the dealer will submit an invoice to New Direction IRA. Included in that invoice will be the dealer's commission and shipping costs.

Depository fees vary by facility. You may pay the depository fees from your IRA cash balance or out of pocket.
